A number of years ago, I was assigned to the parish in Spencer, Nebraska, and I had to have carpal tunnel surgery. I elected to have it done arthroscopically. So they put a puncture in the center of the palm, and in the wrist to do the surgery. Well, I had this done in both hands at the same time, and it was done during Easter week. After the surgery, one of the other pastors in town suggested I should have had it done during Holy Week and then come out on Easter Sunday with my hands bandaged. Uh… no!
“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who in his great mercy gave us a new birth to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead.” This is Divine Mercy Sunday. And Pope St. John Paul II wrote a marvelous encyclical titled Rich in Mercy. In Latin it is called: “Dives en Misericordia”. If you are interested in that encyclical, you can download it from the Vatican website. I highly encourage you to do so. It is easy to read. It is one of the masterpieces that St. John Paul wrote.
