A number of years ago, there was a couple in the parish where I was stationed who had an invitation from their son to Florida during this time of the year. The reason for the invitation was because their granddaughter was going to be in the Passion Play at their parish.
Now, the full story is that when the dad, this couple’s son, took his daughter to try out for the play, the director of the play recruited the dad to play Jesus.
So this couple, my parishioners, were going down to Florida to watch the Passion Play in which their son was going to play Jesus. I asked them to note carefully their feelings and to write about them when they returned.
This is what the mother wrote:
“… We flew to Florida to visit our family and while we were there we saw the play our son was in and he played the part of Jesus. You can’t imagine the feelings we had watching this play and seeing our son so mistreated, there’s no way we can really explain it.
